Daniel Gallay

As National Director of Sales, Daniel helps lead Heffel’s team of specialists in selling important works of fine art through auction and private sale.

Since the start of his career in 2005, Daniel has cultivated an extensive range of specialties across multiple periods, regions and practices. His long-standing relationship with the works of the Group of Seven & their Quebec contemporaries has led to a concentration on Canadian Impressionism. Post-War artists have also become a specialty through focused engagements with some of the 20th Century’s most notable artists, including Jack Bush, Jean Paul Riopelle, Rita Letendre and Alex Colville. Additionally, he is honoured to have close and ongoing relationships with the Dorothy Knowles Estate, one of the select artists and Estates that Heffel represents directly through our Private Sale department.

Throughout his career at Heffel, Daniel has been instrumental in many exciting consignments and sales. One such highlight includes assisting with three major oil sketches by Lawren Harris consigned from the descendants of Toronto architect John Lyle, which collectively realized a value over $4.3 million. He has also overseen and organized numerous Private Sale events, ranging from individual works to entire multi-city exhibitions, such as David Blackwood: Autobiography in 2019.

Daniel prides himself on building lasting, trusted relationships based on highly personalized advice and consultation. Whether for consignment or sale, his goal in every interaction is thoughtful and discerning engagement paired with impeccable client service.
