Provenance:
Frank Fairey, Vice-President of Vancouver Technical School
By descent to the present Private Collection, British Columbia

W.P. Weston’s illustrated journal consists of 32 pages of photographs, drawings and notes about a 1913 journey up the British Columbia coast aboard the powerboat Wynot. It includes a watercolour by Weston entitled The Wynot at Horse Shoe Bay, dated August 8, 1913 and measuring 9 1/2 x 5 3/8 inches. It also includes a hand-coloured map of the coast of British Columbia.

This 1913 journey, which took place August 2 to 8, included nine other men besides Weston, and traveled to destinations such as Sechelt, Pender Harbour, Vancouver Bay, Jervis Inlet and Princess Louisa Reach. In the journal, Weston (who described himself as “The Paint Slinger”) humorously describes their high-spirited adventures as they fished, camped, explored their natural surroundings, sighted wildlife and told campfire stories. A fine time was had by all, and A.F. Finlayson, described as their “Poet Laureate” wrote:

“Twas on board the good ship ‘Wynot’

That ten of us a pleasure trip sought

Now ‘tis an honest opinion,

That nowhere in all this Dominion

Could a better one ever be got.”

Estimate: $4,000 ~ $6,000 CAD

Sold For: $2,340.00 CAD (including buyer's premium)
