The distinctive armour laced with green silk cords and probably a 17th Century ensuite set. The helmet Momoyama Period (1573-1615) with nanban (foreign) influence, and with a gold dragon maedate (crest) that is likely Edo period, the mask of a dark and heavy russet iron, its nose held in place with hinges and chains. A yadome (arrow deflector) extends from the upper edge to the line of the jaw. The mask is fitted with a four lame yodre kake (neck guard) of false scales laced in green silk.
The dou (chest armour) is a conventional ni mai dou of black lacquer false scales with the gessan (waist protector) attached to a separate belt laced to the lower edge. Simple back lacquered sode (shoulder protectors) of false scales tied just above the elbow to black lacquered shino gote (splinted sleeves).
The haidate (thigh guards) of black lacquered iron plates matches the kote (sleeves). In the centre of each row of scales is a band of mail that allows the armoured section to bend vertically. Completing the armour is a pair of suneate (shin protectors) without knee guards.
