18 months after Benjamin Chee Chee's untimely death in 1977, the CBC Radio programme 'Between Ourselves' featured interviews with some of those who had known the artist, along with a past recording of the artist himself. During the interview, Neil Sneyd, of the Toronto Wildlife Gallery spoke of Benjamin Chee Chee:

"He was a genius, in his own way. He was a man who could, in one stroke, depict the flight or movement of an animal. And this seemed to be where he was concentrating, this was what he loved, was the movement. So, if it was a penguin, he would stand in the gallery and move himself like a penguin. He had never been to the Antarctic, but I think he’d seen penguins in National Geographic films, or what have you, you know. And everything he did was movement and flight. There was nothing fancy about what he did it was just brilliant simple strokes."
