Joichi Hoshi sheet sight 23 3/8 x 16 ½ inches Haku Maki sheet sight 19 ¼ x 8 ½ inches The larger by Joichi Hoshi (1913-1879) signed, titled Flower (B), dated 1963 and editioned 32/50; the smaller by Haku Maki (1924-2000) signed, titled Poem 69-4 and editioned 67/83 Initially based in Harbin in northeastern China during the first half of the 20th Century, the Gurevich family moved to Canada during the 1950's and opened the Gurie Gallery, a staple of Montreal’s trendy Sherbrooke street. The Gurie Gallery was one of the first to focus on Chinese ceramics, decorative arts and paintings, and was extremely popular to collectors in Montreal, Toronto and New York. The son, Alex Gurevich (1929-1990), took over the store during the 1960's and continued to source objects through frequent visits to Hong Kong.
