This work is included in Stanners’s recently published Jack Bush Paintings: A Catalogue Raisonné, as catalogue #4.31.1948.cxxvi

The Catalogue Raisonné notes the following:

Valley in Winter depicts the neighbourhood in Toronto known as Hoggs Hollow. Since the title Valley in Winter appears nowhere in the artist's first record book of paintings, it is possible that this painting was originally titled "The Hollow" which is a title appearing in the artist's first record book, not yet linked to a located painting. The record for The Hollow (cat. no. 1.176.1948.38) does not indicate dimensions so it is virtually impossible to confirm that Valley in Winter and The Hollow are the same work. The gouache medium does match between the first and fourth records, and these two titles are the only works that point to Hoggs Hollow in that year.
