PROVENANCE
Wynick/Tuck Gallery, Toronto
Estate of the Artist
Private Collection, Alberta

Doris McCarthy's remarkable career took her across every corner of Canada, rendering the nation’s vast landscapes with extraordinary depth, colour, and vision. Best known for her icebergs and Arctic vistas, McCarthy’s broader body of work portrays a Canada that is rugged yet welcoming, vivid and alive, offering a nuanced and deeply compelling vision of the nation.

“Northern Horizons: Canadian Landscapes” comes to Heffel from a private collector and personal friend of the artist, dedicated to advancing McCarthy’s legacy. Heffel is honoured to present a select group of works from this significant collection, offering private collectors the opportunity to engage with and enjoy these exceptional paintings. The works included were acquired directly from the artist’s Estate in 2019, and since that time, the inspired patron has donated more than 250 artworks to the University of Toronto Scarborough’s Doris McCarthy Gallery. This thoughtful stewardship ensures that McCarthy’s work is comprehensively represented in the public domain and remains accessible to scholars, art professionals, and the wider community.
