The Currency Act of 1910 allowed for the production of gold coins in values of $2.50, $5, $10, and $20. With gold prototypes initially minted in 1911, the Ottawa Branch of the Royal Mint issued only $5 and $10 coins between 1912 and 1914. Official documents suggest that a significant portion of the gold used for the 1912-dated coins originated from the Klondike region, and production ceased in 1914 due to the onset of the First World War.
