EXHIBITED
Audain Art Museum, Whistler, Tales of an Empty Cabin: Somebody Nobody Was…, February 16 – May 6, 2019

Joseph Tisiga is a multidisciplinary Kaska Dena artist whose practice questions the shifting terrain of identity. Working across painting, drawing, performance, photography, sculpture, and installation, Tisiga constructs visual worlds that merge the mundane with the metaphysical, the autobiographical with the mythic. His work reflects an ongoing examination of how Indigenous identity is shaped within contemporary social and political contexts. Tisiga’s art often stages complex narrative scenes that blend symbolic elements, mythological structures, and surreal disruptions, as seen in this work and A Prop for Reconciliation (Betty).

Tisiga’s work has been widely exhibited across Canada and internationally. Institutions that have featured his art include the Audain Art Museum, the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, the Yukon Arts Centre, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, and the Ottawa Art Gallery. His works are held in major collections such as the National Gallery of Canada and the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. This work was included in the exhibition Tales of an Empty Cabin: Somebody Nobody Was…, shown at the Audain Art Museum in Whistler.

Please note: this work is unframed.
