PROVENANCEAcquired directly from the Artist by Gloria Rosner, Vancouver
Gloria Rosner, a long-time volunteer in the Museum of Anthropology gift shop, was responsible for selecting Indigenous prints for sale, a role through which she met Lia Grundle, who was representing the print work of Haida artist Freda Diesing. After purchasing Diesing’s prints for the shop, Rosner and Grundle formed a small independent venture in the late 1980s, commissioning Diesing to create original designs for wearable sterling silver jewellery. The pieces, cast by Sarber Jewelry in Vancouver, were produced in limited quantities and sold primarily to West Coast Indigenous galleries and gift shops. The partnership operated for only a few years and remained a modest, hobby scale enterprise. Please note: the dimensions listed are for the Brooch, which is not initialed on verso. The Whale Earrings are initialed on verso and measure 3/4 x 7/8 of an inch each. The Salmon Earrings are not initialed and measure 1/2 x 1 1/8 inches each.
