This work is included in Stanners’ recently published Jack Bush Paintings: A Catalogue Raisonné, as catalogue #1.179.1949.81

Jack Bush’s October 1949 show at the Gavin Henderson Galleries in Toronto marked the end of a hiatus, as Bush’s work had not been shown in a solo exhibition for about two years. Sarah Stanners described the show as “a ‘coming out’ or announcement of Bush's new direction in painting,” noting the exhibition pamphlet described the works as “provocative.” Six paintings from the pivotol 1949 exhbition are now in the collection of the Art Gallery of Ontario.

This work was also included in the Art Gallery of Algoma’s exhibition Jack Bush – Hymn to the Sun, a celebration of Bush’s pre-abstract work that toured Canada in the late 1990s.
