PROVENANCE
Nephew of the Artist
Acquired from the above by Michel Bigue, Quebec
A.K Prakash and Associates, Toronto
Private Collection, Victoria

Please note this work was signed and dated 1956 / 1966 by the artist on verso at a later date, potentially in the 1990s. This work was painted later than the dates on the verso of the work, as the artist first painted the black and white series in 1955 / 1956, and then again revisited the series in 1967 and again in the 1990s.

Please note this is a smaller painting based on a version of “Trinoir”, which belongs to the Guido Molinari Foundation and is dated 1955. This version of “Trinoir” was shown at the exhibition “The Black and White Paintings” at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1989. There is a similar work, a different version of “Trinoir” which is included in the Thomson Collection at the Art Gallery of Ontario, dated by the AGO as 1956.

We thank the Guido Molinari Foundation for their assistance in researching this lot.
