On verso inscribed "Sketch of Mrs. George Ross and her daughter Mrs. Burnell" / "(86 years of age)" / "Port Anson, Ryerson Township (4 miles north of Magnetawan), Northern Ontario"

Also on verso is the following text, written by the artist:

"Mrs. Ross as a bride went from Parry Sound 60 years ago to Ryerson Township and did not travel away from the homestead until Mr. Ross died in the spring of 1933, when she went out to Parry Sound to attend to business connected with the property.

Her husband was a lumberman and trapper and in the early days made a good living. He with other pioneers went with sleighs to Orillia for supplies. Mrs. Ross told me one story about Mr. Ross - when on a trapping trip, he woke up one morning to find his beard frozen to the snow. Just now would be a good time for someone to record the stories she so vivdly tells." E. Grace C.

Please note: this work is unframed.
