The rather mysterious title, Unknown Subject, is written verso although it is not clear whether by Kurelek's hand. One might speculate that the subject was not based on an exact site that Kurelek visited but on an imagined location. Nonetheless, this delightful depiction of wildflowers and red poles (or logs?) playfully tumbling down a steep waterfall is typical of the artist's attention to fine detail, including reflections in the mountain pool and the tips of the standing poles visible under the water.

This work is in the original frame made by Kurelek.
