PROVENANCE
Private Collection, Montreal

Consignor proceeds from this lot will benefit the Quatuor Molinari, the quartet in residence at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.

Acclaimed by the public and by international music critics since its foundation in 1997, the Quatuor Molinari is dedicated to the rich repertoire for string quartets of the 20th and 21st centuries. They have performed in Canada, Europe and China, and their recordings have received international acclaim. The recipient of 20 Opus Prizes, the Molinari Quartet has established itself as one of the best quartets in Canada.

For the musicians of the Quartet, Guido Molinari’s name was the best choice to communicate their commitment to the interpretation of the music of our time. The frank and innovative approach of the famous painter is exemplary for them, in particular because his work was centered for 40 years on rhythm and harmony, and because Molinari is associated with the avant-garde in the artistic field.

In addition to lending his name to the Quartet, Molinari created the logo and served as chairman of the quartet's board of directors.

The funds raised by this auction will support the artistic activities of the Quatuor Molinari, such as the production of CDs and concerts. The members of the Quartet are:

Olga Ranzenhofer, violin

Antoine Bareil, violin

Frederic Lambert, viola

Pierre-Alain Bouvrette, cello

Please note: this work is unframed.
