PROVENANCE
Acquired directly from the Artist by John J. Bowlen, former Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
By descent to the present Private Collection, Edmonton

This work was acquired directly from Nicholas de Grandmaison by John J. Bowlen, former Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. The Honorable John J. Bowlen was a successful farmer, rancher and was very involved in politics and public affairs. Bowlen led a diverse life and career – first as a farmer selling horses, at one time owning the largest horse ranch in Canada. Notably he was Vice-President and Honorary President of the Western Stock Growers' Association, Governor of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Associate Director of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, and a member of the Calgary Public Library Board. He was also an Honorary Chief ("Sitting Eagle") of the Blood Indians (1951), and he also received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Alberta (1952). This fine work has been in the family since its acquisition from the artist and is making its auction debut.
