This atmospheric oil sketch of the Thames River in Ontario is among the earliest known works by Paul Peel, and is believed to have been excecuted when the artist was about 14 years old. It serves as an important marker in the development of one of the most important Canadian artists of this period.

William J. Young was a noted art collector and the former Chief Financial Officer of Imperial Oil.
