PROVENANCE
Sold sale of Important Canadian Art, Sotheby's Canada, May 11, 1994, lot 22
Acquired from the above by John Hampton Hale, Montreal
Estate of Nancy Ryrie Birks Hale, Montreal

This is a reproduction of the painting Place d'Armes, Montreal by Cornelius Krieghoff, circa 1848, in the collection of the Bank of Montreal. This scene depicts the Bank's office at Place d'Armes in Montreal shortly after the building's completion in 1848, and reproduces one of several views of this location by the artist, whose studio was down the street from the bank.
