PROVENANCE
Acquired directly from the Artist
By descent to the present Private Collection, British Columbia

The parents of the consignor of this painting worked in the advertising industry in Toronto following the Second World War. Among them, artists such as Alan Collier and Jack Martin worked in the industry as illustrators. After work they would all socialize together over drinks and cards. This painting was won in a card game by the consignor's father, as Martin was down a few hands to him. Martin told him to come by his studio and select a painting to repay his debt. He chose this one - a classic and sensitively depicted Canadian scene of a man and a horse working in the Ontario winter.
