In 2005, the HBC Heritage department held a fashion design contest at two design schools in Canada: Kwantlen College in Vancouver and LaSalle College in Montreal. Contestants were invited to submit contemporary designs made from a 6 point or 8 point HBC Point Blanket. Completed garments and sketches were exhibited at the Hudson’s Bay store in Downtown Montreal.

1) Hooded jacket and leg warmers (#1730) This design was the winner of the Popular Vote in Montreal.

2) Long skirt and asymmetrical top (#1728)

3) Shoulder cape (#1729)

4) Car coat with scarf (#1727)

5) Woven Cape (#1726)

6) Bomber style jacket with fur-trimmed hood (#1725)

7) Multistripe Coat (#1724)

8) Asymmetrical skirt and hooded jacket (#1723)

9) Bomber style jacket (#1722)

10) Long dress with lace-up front (#1721) This design won the Judges’ Prize for Best Design.

The auction preview will be held at Heffel Toronto April 15-16 by appointment only.

Please note that Heffel's standard Buyer's Premium applies to each lot in the Hudson’s Bay Company auction. The Buyer’s Premium is the amount paid by the Buyer to the Auction House on the purchase of a lot, which is calculated on the Hammer Price as follows: a rate of 25% of the Hammer Price of the Lot up to and including $25,000; plus 20% on the part of the Hammer Price over $25,000, plus applicable Sales Tax.

The Buyer is responsible for all pickup and shipping costs and arrangements. All lots will be sold “as is, where is” and will be deemed as released in Ontario and HST will be applied.
