PROVENANCE
Collection of Hudson's Bay Company, Canada

The model measures 40 x 40 x 7 inches.

The case measures 79 x 58 x 34 1/8 inches.

This model of the ship Nonsuch was built in 2003 by Bill Ballenger for display in the Victoria Gallery. The case was constructed by Gregroy R. Brown.

The Nonsuch was a 17th century, 54-foot ketch. It sailed from Gravesend, England on June 3, 1668, arrived at James Bay on September 29th, 1668, and returned to London on October 11, 1669. The voyage demonstrated the viability of the northern fur-trading route and led to the founding of the Hudson's Bay Company on May 2, 1670.
