Senior Fine Art Specialist, Toronto Office

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to Senior Management, the Senior Fine Art Specialist will cultivate and develop relationships with clients, secure consignments for upcoming sales, provide valuations of artwork, contribute to the Fine Canadian and Canadian Post War & Contemporary catalogue and assist with further developing Heffel’s business strategy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Generate business opportunities in association with senior management.
• Liaise with regional offices and internal team members to develop and procure potential consignments.
• Ensure internal systems are in place and being followed.
• Working with offices across the country, ensuring that top down infrastructure is continually in place and coordinated with each office.
• Work with existing senior employees on budgets, sale goals and infrastructure details.
• Mentor, train and develop junior team members.
• Assist with marketing strategy.
• Research property for sale, evaluate, catalogue, produce condition reports.
• Conduct on-site and off-site valuations.
• Provide clients with verbal and written appraisals of artwork.
• Assist with catalogue production, including essay writing, layout, text editing.
• Assist with organization of preview and sale events.
• Offer professional advice and assistance to clients during day-to-day business activities.


QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post-secondary degree in Art History or a related field.
• At least five years experience in a related field and 3 years as a Fine Art Specialist.
• MBA, business degree or finance background is an asset.

SKILLS:
• The candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A proven track record in developing client relationships and generating business.
• A fast learner with an entrepreneurial spirit.
• A team player, with strong organizational skills, and ability to work on tight deadlines.
• Ability to work efficiently with goal of delivering high quality service to clients and colleagues.
• Ability to manage people and processes.
• High level of accuracy is mandatory. Possess an understanding of current trends in the Canadian Art Market.
• Must exercise sound judgment and represent Heffel professionally to clients.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
• Fluency in French and/or Mandarin an asset.
