Gervais studied painting at l’École des beaux-arts in Montreal from 1950 to 1954 with painters Jacques de Tonnancour and Stanley Cosgrove, as well as sculptor Louis Archambault. She taught for 16 years at l’École des beaux-arts, l’Université du Québec and Concordia University in Montreal. The influence of the work of Paul-Émile Borduas can be seen in her paintings, which are in museum collections such as the National Gallery of Canada, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Albright-Knox Museum in Buffalo, New York, and many others.
