In the winter of 1934 Frank Johnston stayed at James Cryderman’s log cabin, located west of Beardmore and north of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Johnston was there to do a commission of a dog team which was from the same stock of huskies that Admiral Byrd took to Antarctica.

The frame on this work was designed and hand-carved by Paul Rodrik Johnston.
