Purchased directly from the Artist in Taiwan by the present Private Collector, Toronto

Prior to visiting Taiwan on business around 1977, the owner of this work had seen photographs of sculpture by Ju Ming, probably related to the artist's 1976 solo exhibition at the National Museum of History in Taipei. Intrigued by the images, he set out to contact Ju Ming and eventually purchased two wood carvings this lot and lot 111 from the artist.

Included with this lot is correspondence between the consignor and C.Y. Cheng, who acted as an agent between the consignor and Ming.
